Eight more children die with measles symptoms in 24 hours

Eight more children have died with measles symptoms in the country in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 1,086 new patients were admitted to hospital with measles or measles symptoms — 1,033 with symptoms and 53 with confirmed measles.

The figures were given in the Directorate General of Health Services’ latest report on Saturday, covering the 24 hours from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.

In the past 24 hours, three children died with measles symptoms in Dhaka, two in Sylhet, one in Chattogram and two in Mymensingh. Since March 15, a total of 583 children have died from measles or its symptoms — 493 with measles symptoms and 90 after confirmed measles.

According to DGHS data, the number of suspected measles patients from March 15 to date is 69,612. Over the period, 55,705 children were hospitalised with measles symptoms, of whom 52,050 have recovered and returned home. The number of confirmed measles patients since March 15 is 8,996.
