Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was taken to a hospital. He was admitted to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Tel Aviv on Monday evening local time, according to Israeli media reports.
The prime minister’s office issued a statement after Hebrew-language media reported he had been taken to the hospital. The statement said Netanyahu was taken to the hospital primarily for dental treatment, according to the Times of Israel.
The health of the 76-year-old prime minister has become a major topic in recent months. A series of incidents has fueled accusations that he has hidden his medical information from the public, drawing criticism. The result has been widespread speculation in Israel about his overall health.
In a long social media post last month, Netanyahu said he had recently undergone successful surgery at Hadassah Medical Center for a malignant tumor on his prostate.
He said he had not made the matter public to prevent its use as propaganda against Israel during the Iran war. He did not specify when the diagnosis was made, when treatment began or when it ended.
An annual health report and an additional document on cancer diagnosis and treatment were released along with Netanyahu’s announcement. The report had only five vague items on half a page, with no indication of the year it covered. Neither document carried a hospital logo or an official medical statement.
Netanyahu had a pacemaker fitted in July 2023. He also had hernia surgery in March 2024 and prostate removal surgery in December 2024.
When his pacemaker was fitted, his office and the hospital initially said he had spent the night at Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan for dehydration monitoring. Questions about the prime minister’s overall health emerged after the hospital said a subcutaneous heart monitor had in fact been implanted.
A week later, doctors acknowledged that an electrocardiogram (ECG) taken during his hospital stay had shown some abnormalities. Even so, they assured the public that the prime minister’s heart was “completely normal.”
