Magura DC falls ill, airlifted to Dhaka by helicopter

Magura Deputy Commissioner (DC) Motakabbir Ahmed has been airlifted to Dhaka by a special Bangladesh Air Force helicopter for advanced treatment. He was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital on Monday (June 15) afternoon. According to the district administration, Motakabbir Ahmed joined as Magura’s deputy commissioner in the first week of this month. Since taking charge he had been staying at the Magura Circuit House. Late on Sunday night he suddenly felt severe abdominal pain and fell ill. He was later admitted to the 250-bed Magura Sadar Hospital. After primary treatment and observation there, doctors advised sending him to Dhaka for advanced treatment. On the doctors’ advice, he was flown to Dhaka on a special Bangladesh Air Force helicopter that landed at the Magura stadium around 4 p.m. on Monday.

Magura Civil Surgeon Dr. Shamim Kabir said the deputy commissioner had been suffering from a problem related to abdominal pain. Although the pain eased somewhat with primary treatment, he was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Dr. Mehedi Hasan, a consultant in the medicine department of the 250-bed Magura Sadar Hospital, said: “Generally this kind of stomach problem is called perforation. It can occur for various reasons, including acidity.”

Meanwhile, when news of the deputy commissioner’s illness spread, it caused concern among administration officials and staff and people of various walks of life. They wished him a speedy recovery.
