Md Nazrul Islam, general secretary of the Satkhira district unit of the Awami League, whose activities are banned, has been arrested. He was arrested from the Bashundhara residential area in the capital by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB).
The DMP additional commissioner (DB), Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the matter at noon on Monday. He said Nazrul Islam was arrested from his own home in the Bashundhara residential area at about 12pm on Monday. He is the general secretary of Satkhira district Awami League.
The DB chief said there are several cases against Nazrul Islam. He was arrested in those cases.
Further legal steps are being taken against him, he said.
