The body of a woman, Sufia Khatun (50), has been recovered in Hargoj union, Saturia, Manikganj. Her family alleges she was murdered in a premeditated act.
Her husband has been detained on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred in Hargoj Bepari Para village on Monday (July 7). Saturia police station recovered the body from the scene after news of the death spread that morning.
The deceased, Sufia Khatun, was the wife of Md. Ismail Hossain of the same village.
Police detained her husband, Ismail Hossain (55), after signs of injury were found on Sufia Khatun’s body during the inquest.
The victim’s brother, Ramzan Ali, is calling the death a “premeditated murder,” alleging Sufia was beaten and strangled to death.
The victim’s son, Israfil, on the other hand, claims his mother suffered from mental illness and took her own life.
Saturia police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain said signs of injury were found on the body’s hands and abdomen. The body has been sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue to determine the actual cause of death. The full circumstances will become clear after the postmortem report, following which legal action will be taken.
