A tree-planting program has been held at the No. 84 Kewa Purbakhanda Government Primary School in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur, organized by the youth wing of the Sreepur municipality unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
On Monday (June 15) morning, saplings of various species of fruit trees were planted on the school grounds with the aim of protecting the environment, increasing greenery and fostering a love of trees among students.
Abul Kalam Azad, secretary of Sreepur upazila Jamaat-e-Islami and a candidate for vice chairman, was present as chief guest.
Dr. Md Harun Or Rashid, Jamaat-e-Islami’s nominated mayoral candidate for Sreepur municipality, was present as special guest.
Also present were Maulana Abul Hossain, secretary of Sreepur municipal Jamaat-e-Islami; Masudul Hasan, the municipality’s office and baitul mal secretary; the school’s head teacher, Mahbubur Rahman; and local leaders, teachers and students.
At the event, conducted by Aktaruzzaman Molla, secretary of the youth wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Sreepur municipality unit, speakers said, “There is no alternative to tree planting to maintain the balance of the environment and build a livable world for future generations.”
They called on students to plant more trees and to regularly care for the trees that had been planted.
At the event, the guests inquired about the students’ studies and advised them to study attentively and build themselves up for the welfare of the country and nation. They stressed boosting students’ moral values, discipline and environmental awareness.
After the event, saplings of fruit trees were planted at various spots on the school grounds. The organizers expressed their resolve to continue such public-welfare programs for education, social development and environmental protection in the future.
