JSD leader and former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison on June 30 for crimes against humanity in connection with the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July-August mass uprising, is set to face additional charges in the 2013 Shapla Square massacre case.
Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam said investigators had found evidence of Inu’s involvement in the massacre that took place under cover of darkness at Shapla Square in 2013. He said Inu would be named as an accused in the case.
The investigation report and formal charges are expected to be filed by the end of this month, the chief prosecutor said.
After the political change last year, Hefazat-e-Islam filed a complaint on November 26 at the International Crimes Tribunal against 50 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over the Shapla Square massacre.
