Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the BNP faces an extremely difficult and important time ahead, and that failing to stay alert now will harm the country and future generations. The country must be taken forward by upholding the ideals of Shahid (martyred) Zia, he said.
He made the remarks at a discussion at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in the capital’s Farmgate at around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday (May 31).
The prime minister said martyred President Ziaur Rahman had, in a short time, taken a “bottomless basket” Bangladesh to unique heights, and that people abroad knew Bangladesh by Ziaur Rahman’s name. “People throw stones at the tree that bears fruit,” he said. “We are trying to run the country the way Shahid Zia wanted to take it forward.”
Tarique Rahman said the BNP had a manifesto ahead of the February 12 vote, and that after forming the government it must implement the mandate of the 52 percent of people reflected in it. “The manifesto included canal excavation, education and an industrial revolution. We are doing that work, following the path Ziaur Rahman took to move every sector forward.”
The discussion was chaired by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
