Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has visited the grave of Mohammad Wasim Akram, a martyr of the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.
The prime minister visited Wasim’s grave on Saturday (June 13) afternoon in the Mehernama Bazarpara area of Pekua upazila.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Member of Parliament Lutfor Rahman Kajal were among the leaders present during the visit.
The prime minister later met Wasim Akram’s family, inquired after them, and handed Wasim’s family members Tk 20 lakh in savings certificates.
Wasim, a fourth-year undergraduate student in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Chattogram College, was killed during the anti-discrimination movement on July 16, 2024, in clashes between protesters, police, and the Chhatra League in the Muradpur area of Chattogram. He was a member of the college Chhatra Dal.
Wasim’s father is Shafiul Alam. Wasim was the second of five children.
