Pakistan has called on the United States and Iran to resolve their problems diplomatically. Pakistan’s foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, made the appeal in a phone call with Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, on Sunday.
Ishaq Dar told the Iranian foreign minister that dialogue and diplomacy were the only effective path to settling the dispute and ensuring lasting peace.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing a constructive role in maintaining regional peace and stability.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two leaders exchanged views on the changing regional situation. Ishaq Dar called on all sides to de-escalate and show restraint in line with the Islamabad memorandum of understanding signed in June.
On Sunday, after announcing that it was again closing the strategic Hormuz Strait, Tehran launched missile and drone attacks on US installations in various Gulf countries.
The escalation followed attacks on several commercial ships. Iran said it had closed the strait after firing warning shots at a ship traveling on an unauthorized route.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said the strait would remain closed until US intervention in the region stopped. Before the war, about one-fifth of the world’s total oil supply passed through the Hormuz Strait.
