Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar has said India’s Border Security Force (BSF) is attempting to push Indian nationals into Bangladesh by force across various borders — conduct he called illegal, unjust and contrary to diplomatic etiquette. He made the remarks in a statement on Tuesday (9 June).
Mia Golam Parwar said that by attempting to push its nationals into Bangladesh, the Indian government is violating India’s own constitution, international law and the UN human-rights charter. Various international human-rights organisations have protested such actions, he noted, but the Indian government is not taking heed. In the statement he said the BGB resisted an attempt to push 11 Indian men, women and children into Bangladesh through the Mashalgaon border in Thakurgaon’s Haripur upazila — among them a nine-months-pregnant woman and a disabled child — who are now positioned on the zero line of the India-Bangladesh border. He also cited an attempt to push 10 Indians into Bangladesh through the Harivasa border in Panchagarh, and said attempts had been made to send 320 Indian nationals into Bangladesh through borders in about 11 districts including Kurigram, Meherpur and Sherpur.
He said repeated push-in attempts have failed because of the alert posture of the BGB, Ansar-VDP and local people. “As far as we have learned, the Bangladesh government has written to India several times on the matter but has received no reply,” he said. The Jamaat secretary general said the people of Bangladesh would not bow to foreign pressure under any circumstances, called for such activity on the border to stop in favour of neighbourly and friendly relations, and urged the Bangladesh government to take the necessary diplomatic steps against what he described as Indian aggression.
