A court has ordered that barrister Turin Afroz, a former prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, be shown arrested in a case filed by her brother over the alleged grabbing of ancestral property and forgery. Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain issued the order on Monday after a hearing, on the application of the investigating officer.

According to the case, the dispute began over the grabbing of family property and forgery in the capital’s Uttara area. The complainant, Shah Newaz Ahammed, alleges that the accused, Turin Afroz, tried to misappropriate their ancestral property by wielding influence and resorting to forgery. The complaint says that, after their father’s death, Turin Afroz created a fake affidavit through forgery and claimed ownership of the property. It also states that she used her influence to enter the flat of the complainant’s mother, physically abused her, and took away important documents and deeds.

The case further alleges that Turin Afroz threatened the lives of the complainant and his family members, leaving them insecure for a long time. The documents note that the complainant’s filing was delayed because he had been living abroad for a long period. After completing its investigation, the PBI submitted a report to the court. The complainant’s lawyer, advocate Kafil Mahmud Raihan, said the application to show Turin Afroz arrested was made on the basis of the investigation report; after the hearing, the court granted it and ordered her shown arrested in the case.
