An Awami League leader was welcomed with flowers and appeared on stage at a BNP organizational meeting in Jhalokathi, prompting discussion and criticism on social media.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at a meeting of the Kirtipasha union BNP at the Union Parishad meeting room.
BNP leaders, including Jhalokathi Sadar upazila president S.M. Ejaz Hasan and general secretary Khokon Mallik, welcomed Abdur Rahim Mia with flowers. Mia was later seen seated on stage beside BNP leaders, according to the report.
Mia is vice president of the Kirtipasha union Awami League and chairman of the Union Parishad. Local BNP leaders were also present.
Hasan told Amar Desh that Mia had not joined BNP and said reports that he had been taken into the party were incorrect.
