Member of Parliament Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud visited fire-affected businesses and a family in Baufal, Patuakhali, on Thursday morning.
He visited the Sabupura Bazar in Boga union, where a recent fire damaged five shops and one residence. He provided 7,500 taka in cash, two sheets of tin, and 30 kg of rice to each of the affected shop owners and the homeowner.
“Our assistance is very modest compared to your losses. But we have come to stand beside you as a gesture of solidarity. God willing, we will continue to support you in any future difficulty,” he told the affected families.
“We do not provide aid based on party affiliation or faith. There are Hindu and Muslim shop owners here, and supporters of different parties. But they are all affected — and that is what matters to us,” he said.
The affected business owners expressed gratitude, saying the assistance gave them the courage to rebuild after losing everything in the fire.
Among those present were Baufal upazila project implementation officer Rafiqul Islam, Boga union panel chairman Md. Jamal Hosen, and other local representatives and community leaders.
