Bangladesh’s foreign ministry has summoned India’s acting High Commissioner Pawan Badhe over the barring of Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the prime minister’s adviser on policy and strategy, from entering Delhi by Indian immigration authorities.
Khalilur Rahman arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday evening to attend a two-day meeting of senior officials of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), which began in Delhi on Monday. He was to lead the Bangladesh delegation at the meeting.
Despite prior notice through a diplomatic note, Indian immigration authorities barred the adviser from entering Delhi on Sunday evening.
Although permission was later granted on the instructions of higher authorities, the adviser decided to return to Dhaka via Colombo rather than travel on to Delhi. He arrived back in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.
An official of the foreign ministry said the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi had formally informed India’s foreign ministry last Friday of the adviser’s participation in the meeting.
