Pakistan’s security forces have killed 21 more militants in a series of intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in and around Mir Ali in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, confirmed the information in a statement on Saturday (June 13).
The ISPR said there had been intense exchanges of fire between security forces and the militants in the area over the past 72 hours. The 21 militants killed were members of the India-backed “Fitna-al-Khawarij” group, the ISPR said, a name it uses for the banned outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP.
Those killed included four senior militant commanders, named as Khalid Reza alias Salar, Muftun, Musa and Imran alias Ayan, the statement said. The four were on the most-wanted list over the killing of security personnel and innocent civilians as well as numerous other militant activities, it said. The successful operation dealt a major blow to the militant network active in the area, the ISPR added.
The statement said that, in this highly precise and well-planned operation, a total of 48 militants had been killed so far. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from those killed, it said. The counterterrorism operation is being carried out under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” vision approved by the central apex committee of the National Action Plan, according to the statement. The combing operation and the coordinated efforts of the security forces would continue in full force until the remaining militants in the area were completely eliminated, the ISPR said.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi congratulated and praised the security forces for this major success against militants in North Waziristan.
