Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has assured proper recognition for the leaders and activists who made sacrifices during the party’s difficult days. He gave the assurance on Sunday during a courtesy meeting at the Secretariat with Habibur Rahman, joint organizing secretary of the central Jubo Dal.

During the meeting, the prime minister asked about Habibur Rahman’s role in the July movement, his sacrifices and his current physical condition, inquiring about the health of Habibur, who was injured in the movement.

“The party will never forget your contribution,” the prime minister said. “The way you gave your time, labor and sacrifice for the party — God willing, the party will duly recognize it.”

On the physical pain from the movement, he said: “The pain you still live with, I too still carry. May God accept the sacrifice of us all.”

Habibur Rahman is known as a front-line organizer of the July movement. From October 28, 2023, he took part in various party movements and programs. In that continuity, he was shot and seriously injured during clashes in the Shanir Akhra area on July 20, 2024.

Habibur Rahman said that although he was taken to a local pharmacy while injured, he did not get the necessary treatment. Without timely advanced care and specialist supervision, the gunshot wound still troubles him physically, and he continues to suffer various complications.

Recalling the July movement, he said: “This cursed July took much from our lives that can never be brought back at any price. No one but my family knows the pain of how I am still alive.”

“I worked risking my life for the party, stayed on the streets, gave blood,” he said. “I believe the party will duly recognize that sacrifice. Today the prime minister prayed for me, gave me courage, and said my contribution will surely be recognized.”

Habibur Rahman has previously served as a member and joint finance secretary of the Chhatra Dal’s Jagannath University unit, joint school-affairs secretary and joint organizing secretary of the central Chhatra Dal, and a member of the Jubo Dal’s central executive committee.
