Police in Noakhali have recovered two stolen motorcycles, including one belonging to Abu Naser Manju, the district correspondent of bdnews. Two members of an inter-district motorcycle-theft ring were arrested over the incident. The arrested are Md Faisal, 35, son of Miraj Uddin of the Shunyer Char area of Hatiya upazila, and Jahangir Alam, 32, son of Rafiq Ullah of the Char Alauddin area of Subarnachar upazila.
Sudharam Model police said the two were arrested on Friday night from the Kanchan Member’s Pool area of Sadar upazila. According to police, the motorcycle of Abu Naser Manju — district correspondent of bdnews and Independent Television — was stolen from the old bus stand area of Noakhali town on the night of 12 July, and he filed a written complaint at the station the next day. Separately, about two months ago a young man named Joydeb had his motorcycle stolen from the Sonapur area. On Friday, the arrested Faisal took 10,000 taka from Joydeb via bKash on the promise of returning the motorcycle; when he then dragged his feet, Joydeb and his friends cleverly lured Faisal and Jahangir to the spot and informed police.
On the information, a police team led by Sudharam Model police SI Fakhrul Islam raided and first recovered Abu Naser Manju’s motorcycle, then, based on information from the arrested, recovered Joydeb’s stolen motorcycle the same night. Sudharam Model police OC Md Nazrul Islam said Faisal and Jahangir were active members of an inter-district motorcycle-theft ring that had long been stealing motorcycles from one district and smuggling them to another, and that it was initially believed they had also stolen several more motorcycles from Noakhali recently. He said operations were under way to arrest other members of the ring, and that the two had been shown arrested in two cases and sent to court on Saturday.
