A pickup driver, Amir Hossain, 42, was killed when his vehicle hit a bus parked on the Dhaka-Dinajpur regional highway in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha, early Saturday (July 11). The accident happened in the Tarof Kamal Kamarpara area of Sapmara union. Amir Hossain’s home was in Gofargaon upazila of Mymensingh district.
According to locals and the fire service, a Hanif Paribahan bus had broken down and was standing beside the highway at dawn when a Dinajpur-bound pickup struck it from behind, killing the pickup’s driver on the spot. People nearby rushed to the scene and took the injured to the upazila health complex, while police and fire service personnel recovered the driver’s body from the wrecked pickup.
Traffic on the road was halted for some time after the accident and returned to normal once highway police removed the vehicles. Gobindaganj Highway Police Station officer-in-charge S M Mizanur Rahman confirmed that police had recovered the body and seized the bus and the pickup.
