Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has vowed to avenge the killing of the country’s late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Saying the revenge would be taken against the United States and Israel, the force’s chief said the killing ‘will never be erased from the memory of history’, according to an Al Jazeera report on Friday (July 10).

The report said the IRGC’s top commander and chief, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, called for the perpetrators to be given fitting punishment. Branding the US military a ‘child-killing army’, he demanded that full justice be done.

In a statement, Vahidi said: ‘America’s criminal leaders and all the enemies of the Islamic revolution and the resistance front should know that, by cowardly killing this heavenly leader, they will never be able to bring the flag of resistance to the ground.’
