The funeral prayer of Parichhan Nesa (91), mother of Ayub Ali — a Rajshahi University student whom Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir describes as its third martyr — was held on Tuesday.

The prayer took place around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at the Dauki Government Primary School field in Alamdanga.

A large number of central, city, district, upazila and union-level leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, along with well-wishers and local worshippers, joined the prayer. Among the central leaders present were Mostakur Rahman Zahid, central social-service secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir and VP of Rajshahi University; former central HRD secretary Hafez Nuruzzaman; Rajshahi University Shibir office secretary Manazir Ahsan; and Rajshahi city Shibir president Imran Nazir.

District-level attendees included Advocate Masud Parvez Rasel, the member of parliament for Chuadanga-1 and assistant secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, along with many other Jamaat and Shibir leaders at the district, upazila and union levels.

In brief remarks before the prayer, speakers said many had been drawn to religious activism through Ayub Ali, and that his mother’s role behind her son’s sacrifice was incomparable.

After the prayer, a special supplication was held for the departed, and the leaders present offered condolences to the bereaved family. Ayub Ali’s mother died of old age at her home around 6:45 p.m. Monday.
