Two brothers go missing while bathing in Lalmonirhat river

Two teenage brothers have gone missing while bathing in the Dharla river at Mughalhat in Lalmonirhat. After the accident on Sunday (7 June) afternoon, locals and Fire Service members carried out rescue efforts but found no trace of them until evening. The missing teenagers are Shawon (14) and Sabbir (16), sons of Mohammad Helal Uddin of the Mughalhat Bazar area in Sadar upazila, and eighth- and ninth-grade students at Mughalhat High School.

Speaking to locals, it emerged that on Sunday afternoon Shawon, Sabbir and their friend Mehedi went into the Dharla river to bathe. After a while they were caught in the river’s strong current. Sensing the situation, Mehedi managed to return to the bank, but the two brothers could not be found. Immediately after the accident, locals went into the river and began a rescue operation, and the Fire Service was informed; a team came to the scene and began rescue work.

A responsible Fire Service source said searches were being carried out at various points in the river to find the two missing teenagers, and that the rescue work was continuing. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire Mughalhat area. With the two brothers still not found, anxiety is rising among relatives, and local residents too hope they will be rescued soon.
