Five more children die of measles and its symptoms

Five children have died of confirmed measles or measles symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, and 969 children have been affected with measles or measles symptoms in the same period.

The figures were given in the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) regular measles report on Sunday afternoon.

It said that in the past 24 hours 4 more children had died with measles symptoms, along with one child who died of confirmed measles.

From March 15 until now, a total of 664 children have died with measles symptoms across the country, and another 94 children have died of confirmed measles, meaning that 758 children in all have died of measles or measles symptoms in that period.

In addition, 90 children were confirmed with measles in the 24 hours, while the number of patients with measles symptoms was 879. Over the same period, 849 children were newly admitted to hospital and 843 were discharged.

According to the DGHS, from March 15 to date the total number of suspected measles patients stands at 111,480 and confirmed measles patients at 13,500. Of these, a total of 94,340 patients were admitted to hospital, of whom 90,605 have been discharged and have already returned home.
