The coming 2026-27 fiscal year’s budget proposes a total of 57,301 crore taka for the secondary and higher education division — about 10,000 crore taka more than the outgoing year, when the allocation was 46,738 crore taka. A parliament secretariat source confirmed the figures to Dainik Shiksha on Thursday. The education budget had earlier been approved at the cabinet meeting for presentation of the proposed 2026-27 budget.
According to the ministry, the total education budget proposed is 1,36,606 crore taka — 46,737 crore for primary and 18,457 crore for technical education. In 2025-26, finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed proposed a national budget of about 7,90,000 crore taka, of which the two education ministries were allocated 95,644 crore taka — about 12.1 percent of the national budget. In the outgoing Awami League’s 2024-25 fiscal year, the two divisions of the education ministry and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education had an allocation of 94,710 crore taka, when the national budget was 7,97,000 crore taka — about 11 percent of the national budget. There has long been a demand to allocate 20 percent of the national budget to education.
