A father-in-law and his daughter-in-law have died of electrocution at their home in Anupampur Kolonipara village, Charghat upazila, Rajshahi. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Friday.

The victims are Shamser Ali, 60, son of late Rekat Ali, and Tania Begum, 25, wife of Shariful Islam.

Family members and local residents said a van was being charged inside the home, with an electrical wire running from the charging point toward a cowshed. A clothesline was strung near the wire. When Tania Begum went to hang wet clothes on the line on Friday afternoon, she was electrocuted. Her father-in-law Shamser Ali rushed to rescue her but was also electrocuted on contact.

Locals pulled them free and rushed them to Charghat Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared both dead on arrival.

Local union council member Takdirul Islam confirmed the incident, saying Tania Begum was electrocuted first while hanging clothes near the wire, and Shamser Ali was shocked while trying to save her. The matter has been reported to the rural electrification authority.

Charghat Model police station officer-in-charge Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed that two members of the same family died from electrocution.
