A new gas well has been found at the village of Baro Charigaon in Nabipur union of Senbag upazila in Noakhali. The volume of the reserve will be known after 45 days of drilling and a 15-day DST test. If the well is drilled successfully and the DST test is completed, however, it is initially estimated that 7 million cubic feet of gas a day could be added to the national grid from here.
Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) began drilling the new well at midday on Tuesday. Drilling has been under way at full pace since Wednesday morning. The project has been named the “Sundalpur-4 appraisal cum development well drilling project.”
According to BAPEX, an initial target has been set to drill the well to 1,550 metres below ground.
The drilling in-charge of the Sundalpur-4 appraisal cum development well drilling project, Zakir Hossain Khan, said the volume of gas in reserve here would be known after the drilling work is completed within 45 days and a 15-day DST test. Drilling began on Tuesday and would continue without interruption, he said. An initial target of 1,550 metres of drilling has been set.
The chairman of Nabipur union parishad in Senbag upazila, Mohammad Belayet Hossain Sohel, said: “We are delighted at the news of the gas find. We want gas, a national resource, to be given to the people of Senbag and Noakhali alongside the national grid.
