After two straight cuts, the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (Bajus) has announced another increase in gold prices in the domestic market. Under the new decision, the price of 22-carat gold, including VAT, has been raised by 1,633 taka per bhori to 221,441 taka.
The information came in a notice signed by the Bajus chairman on Tuesday, July 21, morning. The new price list took effect the same day from 10 a.m.
Bajus said the new rates were set considering overall market conditions after the price of pure gold rose in the local market.
According to the revised prices, 21-carat gold has been set at 211,468 taka per bhori, including VAT. In addition, 18-carat gold is 181,608 taka and traditional-method gold 148,366 taka per bhori.
The prices will remain in effect at all jewellery outlets in the country until further notice, the organization said. However, making charges may vary by design and quality. As VAT is included in the sale price of gold ornaments, it cannot be collected separately from customers.
Earlier, on July 14, Bajus cut the price of 22-carat gold by 2,158 taka per bhori to 219,808 taka.
So far this year, gold prices in the domestic market have been adjusted 92 times — rising 44 times, falling 47 times, with one VAT adjustment.
