Stanford University in the United States and the Netherlands-based publisher Elsevier have jointly published a list of the world’s best researchers. Sixteen researchers from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have won places in this list of the world’s top 2% of researchers. Last year 12 BAU teachers and researchers were on it.
The list, published on Thursday, is based on single-year research for 2026. In all, 347 researchers from 88 universities and research institutions in the country are on it.
As last year, BAU is among the top three in the country. The list is drawn up on the basis of researchers’ published papers, citations, h-index, consistency and the influence of co-authors.
The BAU researchers on the list are Prof Dr Md Shahjahan of fisheries management; Prof Dr Ehsanul Kabir of farm power and machinery; Prof Dr Md Abdul Hannan of biochemistry and molecular biology; Md Fazle Rohani, assistant professor of aquaculture; Prof Dr Md Tanvir Rahman of microbiology and hygiene; Prof Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossain of genetics and plant breeding; Prof Dr SM Lutful Kabir of microbiology and hygiene; Prof Dr KM Golam Dastogeer of plant pathology; Dr Md Tahjib-Ul-Arif, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology; Prof Dr Muhammad Mahfuzul Haque of aquaculture; Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman Khan of agricultural finance and banking; Prof Dr Abdul Majid, dean of the faculty of agricultural engineering and technology; Dr Tumpa Rani Sarker, associate professor of farm power and machinery; Prof Dr Humayun Kabir of agricultural economics; Dr Mohammad Saidur Rahman, associate professor of seed science and technology; and Prof Dr Mohammad Nuruzzaman of pathology.
By institution, Dhaka University leads in Bangladesh, with 22 of its teachers and researchers on the list. Second is the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, with 20 researchers. BAU is third, with 16.
