TANGAIL — A man posing as a police sub-inspector was arrested at the Madhupur Police Station in Tangail while trying to influence a land case, police said.

The fake police officer was detained at the station on Thursday, March 26.

The arrested man, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, 30, is from Bagbhandar village in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district. His father is named Golam Mostafa.

Mizanur arrived at Madhupur Police Station Thursday and introduced himself as a sub-inspector (SI), police sources said. He claimed to be an SI from the 36th batch working at the LIC branch of Police Headquarters.

He had come to lobby on behalf of one party in a land-related case in the Masterpara area of Madhupur town.

When Madhupur Police Sub-Inspector Selim Talukder found his conversation and behavior suspicious, the matter was quickly reported to Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jafar Iqbal. Inconsistencies in his identity emerged during questioning.

Mizanur eventually admitted he was not with the police and had come to lobby under a false identity, police said.

Police said he had come on a contract basis to work for one party in the land-related case when he tried the fraud.
