DHAKA — U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Bangladesh Army Lt. Gen. Mohammad Asadullah Minhajul Alam as the new force commander of the U.N. Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), the United Nations said.

Minhajul Alam also has an academic background in defense and security. He holds a Ph.D. in international relations from Jahangirnagar University and a master’s degree in national security strategy from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
