The new prices took effect from 10am on Tuesday, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) said in a notice. It said new prices for gold and silver have been set in the country’s market because the price of tejabi (pure) gold and silver has fallen in the local market.

According to the new price list, 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 217,767 a bhori. Gold of 18 carats has been set at Tk 187,032 a bhori and gold of the traditional method at Tk 152,798 a bhori.

Bajus said these prices will apply at all jewellery shops in the country until a further announcement. The making charge may differ according to the design of the ornament, however. Since VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver ornaments, it may not be charged to customers separately.

The notice also said Bajus’s existing policy on buying, selling and exchanging ornaments, leaving out the set making charge and the price of stones, will stay unchanged.

Earlier, on 9 October, the price of 22-carat gold including VAT had been set at Tk 231,297 a bhori, 21-carat at Tk 220,916, 18-carat at Tk 189,715 and gold of the traditional method at Tk 154,956.
