Film actress Shabnom Bubli is on her second maternity break. She became a mother to a daughter on May 11. She has been out of the public eye for several months before that as well — she was unavailable even during the Eid release of her film “Pressure Cooker” during Ramadan. Now, news has finally emerged of Bubli’s return to work. She will return to lights, camera and action in September with director Zahid Hossain’s film “Dhakaiya Debdas.”

Director Zahid Hossain of “Dhakaiya Debdas” confirmed Bubli’s return to work after her break. The filmmaker told Ajker Patrika that, if all goes well, Bubli will join the shoot of “Dhakaiya Debdas” in September.

Zahid Hossain said: “We’ve discussed the shoot with Bubli. She’s currently working on her fitness. I expect she’ll join the “Dhakaiya Debdas” shoot in September.”

“Dhakaiya Debdas” is being made against the backdrop of Old Dhaka’s people, society and culture. Shooting began last January during the Shakrain festival. Asked whether Bubli’s break had affected the shoot, director Zahid Hossain said: “‘Dhakaiya Debdas’ is a film about Dhaka’s art and culture. To properly showcase Old Dhaka’s heritage, we’re shooting at real locations during festivals. So the plan from the start was to take our time with the shoot. We’ll be capturing the rituals and culture Dhakaiyas observe throughout the year. Bubli’s September shoot dates were set in advance. While she was away, some portions were shot as planned. We even filmed at real locations most recently during Ashura. We expect the cameras to roll again from September.”

Adar Azad stars opposite Bubli in “Dhakaiya Debdas.” The director said the film is essentially a love story, with Old Dhaka’s heritage portrayed through the story of two people. The cast also includes Tariq Anam Khan, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Rashed Mamun Apu and Rosy Siddiqui, among others.

The director further said shooting for “Dhakaiya Debdas” will wrap next year with a scene depicting the Eid procession during Ramadan. After post-production, the film will release in cinemas nationwide after Eid al-Adha. The film is produced and distributed by Excel Films and Revolution Movies International.
