Dhaka University professor Dipti Saha dies after choking during breakfast

Dr Dipti Saha, a professor in the applied chemistry and chemical engineering department of Dhaka University, has died at a hospital in the capital. She was 58.

On Friday (31 July) morning, food lodged in her windpipe during breakfast and she lost consciousness. She was rushed to a hospital in the capital, where doctors declared her dead.

The information came in a press release from the university’s public relations office.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam expressed deep grief at the death of Professor Dr Dipti Saha. In a message of condolence, the vice-chancellor said Professor Dr Dipti Saha was a distinguished teacher and researcher who would be remembered for her outstanding contribution to education and research in the country. He prayed for the departed professor’s soul to rest in peace and offered deep condolences to the bereaved family. The professor’s body was brought to the applied chemistry and chemical engineering department on Friday afternoon for teachers and students to pay their respects. The acting registrar laid flowers on the coffin on the vice-chancellor’s behalf. Her last rites were later completed at the Postgola crematorium.
