Three bodies recovered from Shahbag footpaths

Police have recovered the bodies of three people from three footpaths in the Shahbag police station area of the capital. The bodies were recovered on Sunday from the footpaths in front of Anandabazar, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the Amar Ekushey Hall of the University of Dhaka.

Police said pedestrians informed the police station after seeing three people lying unconscious at three separate spots. At around 11 a.m., two were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctor declared them dead. One was about 60 years old and the other 55.

Earlier, at around 9:30 a.m., another body had been recovered from beside Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbag police station, Md. Moniruzzaman, said it was believed that all three were homeless. Their names and identities had not been found, the bodies had been kept in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue, and efforts to identify them were under way. The in-charge of the Dhaka Medical police camp, Inspector Mohammad Faruk, said it was preliminarily believed they had died of illness.
