The Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board, the Silk Industry Owners’ Association and Bangladesh Post Office have agreed to work together to deliver the country’s traditional silk products to customers quickly, safely and efficiently.
At a meeting held on Thursday (18 June) in the conference room of the Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board, there was detailed discussion on using the postal service’s modern facilities to improve the production, marketing and supply system of the silk industry.
The meeting, chaired by Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board Director General Toufiq Al Mahmud, stressed using the postal network to deliver silk products easily to various parts of the country as well as to international markets.
Speakers said the initiative would reduce the dominance of middlemen and, alongside expanding the silk industry’s market, directly benefit grassroots entrepreneurs.
The meeting discussed setting up special booths at the Rajshahi GPO and important post offices for parcel booking, ensuring quick domestic delivery through postal services with digital tracking facilities, and providing quality packaging support for silk products.
Participants also stressed reducing customs-related complications to make it easier to deliver silk products to expatriates and foreign buyers.
Toufiq Al Mahmud said, “A modern and accessible supply system is essential for the sustainable growth of the silk industry.” He expressed hope that this cooperation on postal services and e-commerce would create new opportunities in the marketing of silk products.
