Jahangirnagar University has expelled two female students for two years over the possession and use of drugs in a room of Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, the university administration said.

They have also been permanently expelled from the residential hall, and a recommendation has been made to file a case under state law against one of the students.

The decision was taken at a university syndicate meeting held early Monday, June 16. University Registrar A.B.M. Azizur Rahman later confirmed the matter to reporters. The expelled students are Tanuja Tithi of the 51st batch of the Department of Management Studies and Sanjida Amir Inisi of the 48th batch of the Department of Drama and Dramatics, he said.

According to university sources, an investigation committee was formed over allegations of the possession and use of drugs in room 116 of Nawab Faizunnesa Hall. After the allegations were found to be true in the inquiry, disciplinary action was taken against them, the sources said.

The investigation report stated that the two accused students had violated the university’s “Discipline Ordinance 2018.” Under that ordinance, the possession, use or sale of any local or foreign drugs is completely banned on the university campus, in departments, institutes and residential halls.

On the recommendation of the disciplinary board, the syndicate meeting decided to expel Tanuja Tithi and Sanjida Amir Inisi from the university for two years and permanently from the residential hall. A recommendation was also made to file a case against Tanuja Tithi under existing law.

On April 18, the hall administration raided room 116 of Nawab Faizunnesa Hall in the evening and recovered drugs. The room was allotted to Tanuja Tithi. Sanjida Amir Inisi was present there during the raid. The university administration formed an investigation committee after the incident.
