A child named Shihab Uddin, 3, died after falling into pond water beside his home in Bhaluka, Mymensingh.
The incident took place on Saturday morning, September 26, in Dakatiya Southpara area of the upazila.
Shihab Uddin was the son of Shariful Islam of Southpara.
Local sources said Shihab fell into the pond beside the house in the morning without the family’s knowledge. After a long search, family members rescued the child from the pond in critical condition and took him to nearby Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex. The doctor on duty, Dr Masud, declared him dead.
Former local union parishad member Md Nurul Islam confirmed the incident and said the child was his grandson.
Bhaluka Model Police Station sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam said he was not aware of the incident.
