Lightning-triggered wall collapse kills child in Bhaluka

A four-year-old girl, Ayesha Akter, who was sleeping while visiting her maternal grandfather’s house in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, was killed when a mud-house wall collapsed during a lightning strike. Her father, Siddique, was seriously injured in the incident.

The incident occurred Sunday (Sept. 6) morning in Dhitpur village in the upazila.

Local sources said Siddiqur Rahman and Farzana Akter, a couple from Biruniya village in the upazila, had come with their daughter Ayesha Akter to visit her maternal grandfather Montaj’s house in the Dhitpur area. On Sunday morning, father Siddique was sleeping with his young daughter in a mud house at the residence. Lightning suddenly struck, causing the mud wall to collapse on top of the father and child. The child died at the scene, and father Siddique was seriously injured. Siddique has since been treated at a hospital.

Halim Uddin Sarkar Ripon, acting chairman of Dhitpur Union Parishad, confirmed the incident. He said the deceased child’s father, Siddique, is himself unwell, which is why his wife and daughter had been staying at his in-laws’ house for some time.
