Yao Wen, China’s ambassador to Bangladesh, has held a farewell meeting with opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman. The meeting took place at 11:30am on Tuesday at the opposition leader’s official residence on Minto Road in the capital.
The ambassador was accompanied by the embassy’s deputy chief of mission Dr Liu Yuyin, cultural counsellor Li Shaopeng, attaché Ms Liang Shuying and political affairs attaché Wang Dawei.
According to a Jamaat press release, the two sides held cordial and fruitful discussions on various matters of mutual interest to Bangladesh and China in a very warm and friendly atmosphere. They hoped the two countries’ economic, political, trade, diplomatic and friendly relations would grow stronger in the coming days, and that both countries would work together to speed up bilateral cooperation, development and progress.
The Jamaat amir and leaders praised the outgoing ambassador for helping create a positive environment in Bangladesh’s politics. In particular, they thanked Yao Wen for playing a positive role in improving relations among parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, and creating an atmosphere for mutual dialogue during the political changes after the July movement.
Also present were Jamaat nayeb-e-amir ATM Azharul Islam MP, secretary general Mia Golam Parwar, assistant secretaries general Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan MP and Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, central executive council member Saiful Alam Khan Milon MP, Dhaka Metropolitan South amir Nurul Islam Bulbul MP, central executive council member Md Mobarak Hossain, Metropolitan North secretary Dr Muhammad Rezaul Karim, central working council member Md Zahidur Rahman, and Ali Ahmad Mabrur, a member of the opposition leader’s foreign affairs advisory committee.
