The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a distant nephew, Md Ariful Islam, 31, over the murder of a housewife, Bibi Kulsum Kajol, 37, in Phulgazi, Feni.
RAB-7 squadron leader Mizanur Rahman gave the information at a press briefing on Monday (29 June).
According to the briefing, Arif entered the home of the victim — his distant aunt — at around 4am on the night of the incident to gather money for a debt. RAB said he climbed the grille to the roof with a cutter in hand, cut the roof’s corrugated-iron sheet to enter, and covered his face. When the victim opened the door, Arif, who had been lying in wait, allegedly pounced on her and covered her mouth. As he tried to bind her hands, a struggle broke out, during which Arif pushed Kajol against the wall and she collapsed to the ground, RAB said.
RAB said that after initial questioning Arif had confessed, saying he had entered his aunt’s home for money to repay a debt.
Arif was arrested early on Monday in an operation in the Uttar Dharmapur area of Phulgazi upazila.
The housewife, Kajol, was killed on Friday night after someone cut through the corrugated-iron roof of her home in Dakshin Talbaria of Phulgazi’s Amjad Hat union.
