A husband and wife died after being electrocuted while fishing in a pond in Pabna Sadar upazila on Tuesday evening (June 30).
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in Kuchimora Uttarpara village under Ataikula police station. The dead were identified as Sobdul Pramanik, 35, and his wife Asha Khatun, 25, both residents of the village.
Ataikula police station officer-in-charge Md. Mujibur Rahman confirmed the incident.
Citing the family, the OC said an electric wire running over the pond had been propped up with a thin bamboo pole. While the couple were fishing in the evening, the wire slipped from the bamboo support and fell directly into the water, electrocuting both of them.
Family members noticed the situation, switched off the main power supply, and pulled the couple from the water, but they were already dead.
The OC said a police team visited the scene. No formal complaint has been filed by the family, but legal action will be taken if one is lodged.
