Germany wrote a stirring comeback story after falling behind in the first half. Having conceded once against Ivory Coast before the break, the four-time world champions won 2–1 in the second half through a brace from substitute forward Deniz Undav. The win, their second in a row, made Julian Nagelsmann’s side the first to seal a knockout place from their group.

Although the two sides fought evenly from the start, Germany were dealt the first blow. In the 30th minute, Franck Kessié put Ivory Coast ahead from a quick counter-attack, the experienced midfielder finishing precisely after receiving the ball in the box from an attack down the left.

Germany had twice put the ball in the net before that. Aleksandar Pavlović’s 21st-minute goal was ruled out by VAR for a foul, and Kai Havertz’s effort just before the break was disallowed for offside. So Ivory Coast led 1–0 at half-time.

German coach Julian Nagelsmann turned the match around after the break, making three changes at once in the 61st minute to inject fresh pace — a decision that ultimately settled the game.

In the 68th minute, substitute Deniz Undav levelled with a superb volley from a pinpoint Nadiem Amiri cross. Ivory Coast’s defence grew ragged after conceding, and Undav struck again in the closing stages, capitalising on a defensive error to score the winner and earn Germany all three points.

Germany have 6 points from two wins in two matches. The European giants, top of the group, have already booked their place in the second round. Ivory Coast are second with 3 points from two games.
