A Dhaka court has granted three days’ remand each for six members of the banned Awami League arrested during a secret meeting at a restaurant in the capital’s Gulshan. The allegations against them are untested.
They are Md Mehedi Masud Chowdhury (55), S M Rezwan Habib Alif (33), Md Nannu Mia (38), Md Aminur Rahman (42), Sajal Ahmed (29) and Md Ibrahim Hossen (33).
Police produced them before Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Saturday. The investigating officer then applied to take them on a seven-day remand for a proper investigation. After a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rokibul Hasan granted three days’ remand each.
A sub-inspector of the Banani police station court’s general registration branch, Moktar Hossen, confirmed the matter.
According to the case, leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and the banned Chhatra League were holding a meeting on Friday in the food court on the fifth floor of the Police Plaza Concord shopping mall in Gulshan-1, under Gulshan police station, to make secret plans to carry out sabotage and destructive activities, including undermining the image of the elected government.
They had, over a long period, been making secret plans and conspiracies to carry out sabotage and destructive activities in the Gulshan police station area, the case says. A case has been filed against them under the anti-terrorism act at Gulshan police station.
