Senegal have sacked coach Pape Thiaw after their exit in the round of 32 at the football World Cup. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) confirmed the news.

In a statement, the federation said: “A meeting of the FSF executive committee has decided to relieve national coach Pape Thiaw of his duties. It has also been decided to dismiss the entire coaching staff.”

Thiaw, a 45-year-old former national team star, took charge of Senegal in 2024, but the Teranga Lions produced a disappointing World Cup under him. In the group stage they lost to France and Norway, then beat Iraq 5-0 to reach the next round as one of the best third-placed teams.

But in the round of 32 they were beaten 3-2 by Belgium in extra time and knocked out, even though they had led 2-0 until the 86th minute.

Under Thiaw, Senegal had won the Africa Cup of Nations in January. But the title was later stripped from them as punishment for walking off the field in a controversial and chaotic final against Morocco.
