A court has ordered former minister and Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over irregularities and corruption in teacher recruitment at Wills Little Flower School and College in the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Shahjahan Kabir issued the order on Wednesday.

ACC prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi said an application to show Rashed Khan Menon arrested in this ACC case was filed on June 30. The application was filed by the case’s investigating officer, ACC assistant director Md. Ferdous Rahman. The court had set July 8 for a hearing in the accused’s presence. After the hearing, the court granted the application and issued the order.

Court sources said the ACC filed a case against Rashed Khan Menon and 19 others on December 22 last year over irregularities, abuse of power and corruption in teacher recruitment at Wills Little Flower School and College. The case remains under investigation. Lawyers say that when a defendant already in jail is “shown arrested” in another case, formal legal proceedings begin against them in that case as well. If needed, the investigating agency can seek remand or questioning in that case.

Notably, Rashed Khan Menon was arrested in a separate case on August 22, 2024, and has remained in jail since. Multiple cases, including a murder case, are pending against him. The ACC filed the case against Menon and 19 others over teacher-recruitment irregularities and corruption at Wills Little Flower School and College on December 22 last year.
