Ahsan Habib has been appointed the new chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR). He will replace the current chairman, Md Abdur Rahman Khan. A notification to this effect was issued on Monday.
Habib had previously served as an NBR member and as director general of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC). An officer of the 15th BCS (Taxation) cadre, he stood first in the first class in the geology department of Dhaka University and also topped his batch in the BCS examination.
During his career, Habib also served as commissioner of Tax Zone-15. As director general of the CIC, he led several high-profile investigations into tax evasion and financial irregularities, and played an important role in efforts to recover unpaid tax from the online gambling platform Ulkagames.
