Amid the ongoing Iran-US war, Saudi Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has urged US President Donald Trump to refrain from a major strike on Iran. He made the appeal in a phone call on Saturday.

The Al Mayadeen news agency reported this on Sunday, citing the US outlet Axios. The report could not be independently verified.

The report said the matter came to the fore after Trump revealed a plan to strike Iran’s civilian energy infrastructure, amid US pressure tactics and Iran’s continued resistance to military aggression. Trump has not yet given a final order for the strike, however.

But the possibility of Trump targeting Iran’s energy sector has raised fears of a sharp escalation in the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States.

Riyadh seeks clarity on Trump’s Iran plan

Saudi officials, expressing concern over the possible operation, have sought a clear message from Trump about Washington’s next steps.

A US official said the Saudis were expressing concern about the matter and had sought a clear message from Trump on his plan of action regarding the war.

Meanwhile, a Saudi source said bin Salman had asked Trump to reduce tensions and refrain from the strike plan. The White House and the Saudi embassy in Washington did not comment on the matter, however.

Iran warns of a firm response to any aggression

Iran has warned that it will respond firmly to any attack carried out by the United States or Israel. Iranian military officials have confirmed this in several messages.

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said, addressing Saudi Arabia, that Tehran was ready to protect its sovereignty, integrity and national security. Regional countries that assisted the United States or Israel would also be given a specific and proportionate response, he said.

The spokesman for the national security and foreign policy committee of Iran’s parliament, Ibrahim Rezaei, warned in a post on X that Tehran’s response to any attack would not be limited to the Gulf region. Iran would respond to attacks on all enemy bases and from any location, he said.
