WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States will extend its ceasefire with Iran until talks conclude, at Pakistan’s request, while sanctions on Iranian ports will remain in place.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Trump for announcing the extension. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also welcomed the move.
The current ceasefire is set to expire this week, although the status of U.S.-Iran talks remains unclear.
Vice President JD Vance had been scheduled to leave Tuesday for Islamabad but did not depart Washington, and the White House now says his trip to Pakistan has been canceled.
Iran has not yet decided whether to send a delegation to Pakistan for talks with the United States.
