The proposed 2026-27 budget allocates 42,291 crore taka to the defence sector. In the outgoing 2025-26 fiscal year, 40,698 crore taka was proposed for defence, with the revised budget at 40,502 crore taka — so this year’s allocation is proposed to rise by 1,593 crore taka over the outgoing year. Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury made the proposal in the 2026-27 budget presented in parliament on Thursday afternoon. A 9,38,000 crore taka budget has been placed this time.
For defence, 38,721 crore taka is proposed for the operating expenditure of the defence services and 1,611 crore taka for development expenditure, while operating expenditure for the defence ministry’s other services is set at 1,959 crore taka. This is the first budget of the BNP government and finance minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, presented at a session chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad — the country’s 55th budget.
