Police have arrested three fraudsters who posed as a magistrate to extort money in Savar, Dhaka.
They were arrested while extorting money in the Chapain area of Savar Sadar union on Thursday, August 27, afternoon.
Those arrested are Md Abu Bakar Siddique, 39, Manzurul Haque Manju, 52, and F Rahman Rupak, 48. A fourth man, identified as Md Pintu, 48, fled the scene.
Police and local sources said the arrested men had been extorting money in Savar’s Chapain area by posing at various times as an executive magistrate, a journalist, or a senior government official. On Thursday, while extorting money again by posing as a magistrate, locals grew suspicious, detained them, beat them, and handed them over to Savar Model Police Station.
Savar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Abbas Uddin said a case was being processed over the incident.
